Spectrasonics Trilian 1.5, is a massive free update for the Total Bass Module plugin that adds new sound design features, a new interface & more.

When it comes to virtual instruments, there is almost no way around Eric Persing’s software company Spectrasonics. Its products are not super affordable but offer a lot and a very high sound quality. They’re in a different sound league. The best seller is Omnisphere 2, a top-class synthesizer workstation plugin. Not only Omnisphere is worth its money, but also Keyscape or Trilian total bass module.

The latter has now got a big free 1.5 update that brings it back to the focus of music producers. It adds major new enhancements to Trilian’s arpeggiator, expanded synthesis features, and the interface got a makeover. It also comes with over 200brand new inspiring patches.

Trilian’s Arpeggiator has received a major update in v1.5 with all new creative tools, making it one of the most flexible arpeggiators ever. It now includes new step modifiers (pattern modes, step dividers, pitch slides, chord voicings, chord inversions…) and an arp preset library. Trilian 1.5 can now capture the MIDI data of the arpeggiator as a MIDI file, which you can drag to any DAW.

The sound engine is new and g0t massive changes. First, there are 11 new filters (LPF, HPF & BPF Power with 12/24dB, formant, resonant (+/-) …) to choose from. Big improvements for the FM, at the same time ring modulation and polyphonic waveshaping, have been added to the engine. In the waveshaper, you choose between crusher, shaper, and reducer section for deep and musical polyphonic distortions. Timbre crush mode gives you polyphonic bit-crushing (distortion) and filtering at the same time.

You can now modulate the effectsFree drum set vst. and thus opens up a new sphere of possible sounds. As a result, the mod matrix got a slot upgrade (x2), as well as new modulation sources, which have been added for even more sonic control. New are bias, 3-step, 4-step, constant, constant bipolar, multiple random, and unipolar. Definitely a big update for the sound engine.

New Interface

The interface, which is getting on in years, got a facelift in version 1.5. Now has Omnisphere-2 like touch, is hi-res resizable, and easier to use. Further, it includes a new mini and full browser that incorporates the beloved Sound Match™ & Sound Lock™ technologies known from O2. It allows you to instantly locate andy related sounds and create endless useful patch variations by locking sound aspects while browsing other patches. The interface now supports Windows multi-touch and comes with new handy patch sharing functions.

In my opinion, a highlight is the new seamless integration of Trilian 1.5 into Omnisphere 2. Customers of both products can now access Trilian in Omnisphere 2 or even combine them with the sounds of O2. Keyscape users are familiar with this function.

New Sounds

Well, that’s not all. Trilian 1.5 features a newly expanded sound library with over 200 brand new patches designed by Eric Persing and his team. The 1.5 update also ships with the new “Trilian Creative” library, a cutting-edge collection of Omnisphere patches specially designed for users who also have both instruments.

Trilian’s richly detailed bass sounds can be dramatically transformed using Omnisphere’s deep synthesis capabilities. The new Trilian Creative library features unique and surprising sounds that showcase the power of this killer combination. The new patches offer an extremely wide variety of incredible sounds for modern music producers.

Last but not least, don’t forget to check out the official website where you can find all the new features and improvements. Those are the highlights in my opinion. For the Trilian 1.5 release, Spectrasonics invited Greg Phillinganes & The Pocket Queen to their studios for a little jam. In the video, the new features are not shown in detail but they played with the instruments in a very entertaining way. Highly recommended.

GETTING STARTED - Windows Download Installation

Trilian is available as a download as an installation option for registered users through the Spectrasonics Webstore/Techshop. Once you downloaded Trilian via the Download Manager, follow this set of instructions to install it on your Windows system.

Note: You need over 40GB of free space available on your hard drive in order to continue.

Trilian Installation

Step 1: From your Downloads folder, open the “Trilian_Installation' folder and then the folder called 'Windows.'

Step 2: Double-click 'Trilian Installer.exe' to begin the installation of Trilian.

Step 3: Follow the steps as you're guided through the installation process.

Step 5: Make sure to review the Installation Info and Licensing FAQs and accept the license agreement.

Step 6: At the “Select Components” you'll choose to install the 32bit and/or 64bit versions of Trilian. If you are uncertain which one to choose, select them both. The following steps will show you the default location for both versions of the VST.

Step 7: The default location of the large Trilian data files will be displayed next. If you wish to install the core library to a secondary drive, click the 'Browse' button to choose a different location.

Step 9: After the installation is complete, select 'Finish.” Now it's time to open Trilian in your host and authorize it.
