Can you recommend a 64 bit Windows VST plugin that offers several good preset instrument sounds, especially a realistic sounding acoustic bass such as heard in the old Cakewalk TTS-1 synth? There’s another new free amp sim plugin with some extra features that was recently released for the KVR Audio Developer Challenge in December 2016.

The plugin is called SoftAmp PSA and it was created by developer AXP. It’s available in VST format for Windows 32 and 64-bit systems.
SoftAmp PSA is based on three different devices, the Sansamp PSA, ISP Decimator, and Orange Squeezer.
The plugin also includes a compressor and a built-in noise gate that works quite well. /peak-vst-plugin.html.

At its core there are 5 distortion stages. First three are based on op-amps with zener diodes in the feedback chain, while the last two are just op-amps being overdriven into saturation. They are followed by tonestack, speaker simulator and an output level control. Each overdrive stage has a distinct frequency shaping quality according to their names. I tried this plugin on bass and was pleasantly surprised with the results. It’s worth taking for a test drive and is quite nice for being free. It has lots of possibilities.
